Mechanism of repetition in transcortical sensory aphasia.

چکیده
A typical case of transcortical sensory aphasia (TSA) is presented, in which the Wada test suggests that it is the right hemisphere which enables the patient to repeat orally. It is supposed that one of the mechanisms of preserved repetition in TSA is linked to an exceptional ability for repetition of the right hemisphere, which may help to explain why cases of TSA are so rare.

Progressive transcortical sensory aphasia and progressive ideational apraxia owing to temporoparietal cortical atrophy
BACKGROUND In contrast to frontotemporal lobar degeneration, atrophy of the focal posterior lateral cortex has not been thoroughly studied. Three clinical types of focal cortical atrophy have been described: 1) logopenic variant of primary progressive aphasia, which presents with impaired repetition despite normal articulation; 2) posterior cortical atrophy, which presents with prominent visuos...
متن کاملCorrelation between Brain Lesion Site and Fluent/Non-Fluent Aphasia
Background and purpose: Aphasia is the most common communication disorder resulting from stroke. In this condition all modalities of language, including reading, writing, auditory perception, and oral speech may be affected. Aphasia is divided into two categories: fluent (Wernicke's aphasia, Transcortical sensory aphasia, conduction aphasia, and anomic aphasia) and non-fluent (Broca's aphasia,...
متن کاملTranscortical sensory aphasia: revisited and revised.
Transcortical sensory aphasia (TSA) is characterized by impaired auditory comprehension with intact repetition and fluent speech. We induced TSA transiently by electrical interference during routine cortical function mapping in six adult seizure patients. For each patient, TSA was associated with multiple posterior cortical sites, including the posterior superior and middle temporal gyri, in cl...
متن کاملPerceptual and acoustic correlates of affective prosody repetition in transcortical aphasias
Perceptual judgements and acoustic analyses of affective prosody during sentence repetition were examined in four patients with transcortical aphasias and in two normal controls. Although all aphasic patients had a relative preservation of sentence repetition, perceptual ratings revealed that they repeated using correct affective intonation significantly less frequently than normal control subj...
متن کاملExtrasylvian aphasias
Thumbnail Language disturbances observed in cases of damage outside of the “brain language area” are known as extrasylvian or transcortical aphasia. Preserved language repetition is its distinguishing characteristic. Two major subtypes of extrasylvian aphasia have been traditionally distinguished: extrasylvian motor aphasia and extrasylvian sensory aphasia, each one presenting rather different ...
